My First Holiday
Guess who just got back from their first holiday AC (after cancer)? That's right, yours truly! Let me tell you all about my fabulous adventure to Seville with my sisters.
A few weeks earlier my consultant gave me the green light to fly post-surgery. Woohoo! Cue the excitement and the immediate booking of tickets to Seville. I mean, why not? Seville is the epitome of chill vibes. It's like the whole city is on permanent vacation mode, and stress is just not invited to the party.
Slight plot twist: we booked our trip right in the middle of the Seville Marathon weekend. The plane? Packed with runners ready to conquer the streets. And me? Well, let's just say the FOMO was hitting hard. I may have daydreamed about joining the marathon squad, but then reality kicked in, and I remembered that I'm just grateful to be jetting off with my sisters.
So…we stayed at the Hotel Colon. Yep, you read that right. Perfectly fitting for someone who's just battled bowel cancer, don't you think? The universe has a funny way of playing along with our life stories.
Now, onto the sightseeing! Seville was everything and more. The orange trees are just as picturesque as the Instagram posts and don't even get me started on the freshly squeezed orange juice—absolute perfection in a glass.
This trip wasn't our usual whirlwind city break. Nope, this time around, we fully embraced the art of relaxation. Think lazy lie-ins, breakfast included (no hunting for brunch spots required), and epic afternoon naps to recharge our batteries. It was like hitting the pause button on life.
Let's talk about the guilt trip I found myself on during the trip. Guilt is such a sneaky little emotion, isn't it? I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but there I was, feeling guilty for taking a break while others might be facing their own battles. But you know what? I quickly snapped out of it. Everyone's journey is unique, and it's okay to feel all the feels—happy, sad, grateful, anxious, you name it. It's what makes us human, after all.
Most importantly, this trip was a much-needed escape for my sisters. Because let's face it, when life throws you curveballs like cancer, it's not just the patient who feels the impact. Family and friends ride the rollercoaster right alongside you. And seeing them finally unwind and let go of the stress? That's the real victory.
So, here's to embracing every emotion, seizing every opportunity for joy, and never underestimating the power of a good getaway. Seville, you were a dream. But the real magic? That's in the moments we share with the ones we love. ✨
